I've been using FBackup for about a year now and love it. I've just installed it on my major computer now and am setting up things to be a little more automated. At least I hope I can.
If I set up the scheduler to run at a specific time and someone (my husband) is on the computer at the time, will the back up run? Will it backup up things correctly if he happens to be using the folder that is being backed up at the same time as the backup for that folder wants to run?
Thanks for any advice.
Patty

Hi,
Yes, FBackup will back up your files correctly even if someone is working on the computer and opens the files to be backed up.

FBackup can back up open files if they are on a local hard drive and you use an administrator account.

Thank you. You say it needs to be a local drive. How about if I'm backing up files from an external drive that is connected to a wireless USB hub and adapter like this one at http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/58-14255 I haven't got it set up yet, so not totally sure it's going to work.

I have 40 files that I update 24x5 (securities) and would like to run FBackup nightly while these files are open. Presently, they back up to an external hard drive when the markets are slow and I am not allowing them to update. But that will change next week.
Can I run FBackup on these files while they are updating?
Thanks in advance and once I learned something about this product, I realize how great it. is.

@nhmom:

That is an external drive, it is not a local drive. The local/internal drives are located inside your computer.

Hi,
Backing up open files has the following limitations: It works

- only on Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista or Windows 7

- only for users with administrator access rights to copy open files

- only on local hard drives

- only on NTFS formatted partitions

- only if the VSS (Volume Shadow Service) is running and it is properly configured

I run Win 7 and I see in my computer VSS is set to MANUAL. Should it be set to AUTOMATIC?

Thanx.

Hi,
Please change it to Automatic, restart the computer and try again.

If you still have the problem, please send us the last backup log from View->Job Logs->Last backup log to info[at]fbackup[dot]com
