I back up using fbackup every night, but it appears that fbackup makes an entirely new backup rather than just backup new or changed files. This process obviously takes much longer.
Is there a way to have fbackup only back up the new or changed files and store in the previous backup?
Thanks in advance.
How to back up only new or changed files

Hi,
What is the backup type you use?
Please note if you make Full backups, all files will be backed up.
If you use the Mirror backup type, only new and modified files will be backed up.

Dear Admin,
Many thanks for this.
I prefer to use the mirror backup type. You mention "If you use the Mirror backup type, only new and modified files will be backed up." Could you please let me know -
1. Is it true that if fbackup finds the same file in a previous backup when it is doing a new backup using Mirror backup, then it does NOT overwrite the file.
2. If it finds such a file as in 1. above, does it overwrite it if the previous backup file is older than the new file (eg if the filename and path are exactly the same).
3. Is there any way fbackup gives you a choice of overwriting or not overwriting the file if the backup file as in 2.above is older? For instance, some programs gives the choice "only overwrite the file (with the same name and same path) if the previous backup file is older - yes/no" or something similar.
Many thanks, all the best, cheers and enjoy.
Michael

Hi,
1. If the file exists in destination and it was not modified, it won't be backed up again.
2. If the file is modified (multiple criteria are used: date, size, CRC etc) it will be backed up.
3. Modified files will be automatically overwritten, no user input is required.

Just started using the product. Is there a way to have the backup files stored at the backup location in uncompressed mode with the same extensions as the original files, so they can be accessed directly using the programs associated with the extensions, instead of having to run Fbackup to restore a file then access it?
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
You can use the Mirror backup type.
It creates in destination an exact copy of the source files without zipping them.

I am confused. The resulting file from my backup operation seems to be called "Backup1.fkc" I don't see any of the original files in their original file format. When I try to open this file directly, Fbackup launches and I get the message y:\Backup1.fkc is not a valid backup job or group. It seems I have to run a restore using FBackup to get at the files. Is this the normal operation, or am I missing something?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Hi,
To see the files, please open FBackup, go to View->Open Folder->Destination folder.
Near "Backup1.fkc" file, there should be a folder containing your backed up files.

Hi,
If the backup catalog was created, than also a zip file is created.
Please send us the file: "y:Backup1.fkc" to info[at]fbackup[dot]com
