Volume Shadow Copy

Post by alinstn »

Hi,

I am using Fbackup to back up my MS Outlook Files ( *.pst)
I noticed that if the Windows users is standard type it can not back up the pst files while MS Outlook is open. If the user is administrator Fbackup can copy the pst files although MS Outlook is open - files are in use.
Was it just a coincidence ? Can I configure something in Windows so that standard users can still use Volume Shadow Copy ?
Please note that I am using Windows 7.

Thank you!

Hi,

Backing up open files has the following limitations: It works:
- only on Windows XP or newer
- only for users with administrator access rights to copy open files
- only on local hard drives
- only on NTFS formatted partitions
- only if the VSS (Volume Shadow Service) is running and it is properly configured
