Can't backup to network drive (Destination error code 1385)

Post by TheFoxMan »

(Moved from General discussion group)
My laptop has full rights access to a second hard drive (D:) on a desktop in my HomeGroup that I want to use as a destination for FBackup 5. The laptop can write files to the desktop drive D, and FBackup says the network drive tested okay when creating the backup routine, but it won't complete a successful backup. I get a failure report stating "Destination error (code 1385). Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." Can someone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Hi,

Do you have the same problem if you use the UNC path or the mapped drive as backup destination?

Hmmm... I need to do some homework to learn about UNC path or the mapped drive vs whatever I tried, and I'll get back to you on that. It's my wife's laptop, and she likes to stay socially connected in the evenings while watching TV, so I won't get to it until the weekend. I manually back it up to a flash drive but want to run scheduled backups up to a network drive in the wee hours of the morning.

4/13 Update: I mapped the network drive and confirmed full access by creating and deleting a file. Then I created a test backup with one small file trying both UNC and mapped drive. Epic fail... no luck on either one. Mapped drive backup aborts with message "Backup aborted. Reason: Cannot create folder "T:\FBackup". The system cannot find the path specified." Then I saved the error report to the mapped drive that FBackup couldn't find.

I'm no geek, but I've encountered very few PC problems over the past 25 years that I couldn't solve with a bit of research, but this one has me stumped. I'll keep trying to determine what I'm doing wrong, but any help will be greatly appreciated.

4/15 Update: SOLVED... changed FBackup 5 permissions to give users full control, and voila, backup runs over network drive (both UNC and mapped).

Hi,

Can you give me access to your computer using TeamViewer?
Please write us an email to info[at]fbackup[dot]com, to discuss the time.

Thank you, but as noted above, I solved the problem.
