Hello!

I enjoyed using FBackup for a while but it seems that application has one serious limitation.

All users, except me, cannot see correctly original (Russian) filenames in the ZIPped files.

Worse, recently I reinstalled my Windows and now cannot use zipped backups because of same problem!

Restoring of individual files works, but they are restored with the wrong filenames.

Best regards, Maxim

Hi,

Did you restored the files using WinZip or with FBackup?

It is WinZip who shows the files with the wrong file names, not FBackup.

Please try to restore the files with FBackup. They will have the correct file names.

I tried to inspect and restore zip-files from many applications (except FBackup). All showed the same. So, FBackup makes non-standard compression and no way to tune? Then it is pity.

I am trying to restore one file and getting the following error in the log:

Cannot find "H:\maxmix_backups\FBackup_backups\Others\5_F.zip".

There is a file 6_F.zip, not 5_F.zip in that folder.

May be this is because, as I mentioned earlier, I did reinstall my Windows 7 recently, so had to reinstall FBackup. How could I use my existing zipped backups now?

Hi,

If the files can be restored with the correct names using FBackup, that means the other zip tools can be using another naming method.

In your situation, please delete the backup job from FBackup and open the .fkc catalog file for that job from the backup destination. That will recreate in FBackup the backup job with the correct information in it.

Still cannot restore. Now FBackup finds 6_F.zip, but then for every non-ascii filename

there are errors:

[11.03.2012 8:37:49] Error: File "F:\Documents\ZmmDocuments\Не компьютерное\Квартирный вопрос\варианты\pics\Кр.Путь 28\" does not exist in zip "6_F.zip"

[11.03.2012 8:37:49] Error: File "F:\Documents\ZmmDocuments\Не компьютерное\Квартирный вопрос\варианты\pics\Маркса 38 2эт на б_Победы\" does not exist in zip "6_F.zip"

[11.03.2012 8:37:49] Error: File "F:\Documents\ZmmDocuments\Не компьютерное\Квартирный вопрос\варианты\pics\Маркса 38 3эт на Маркса\" does not exist in zip "6_F.zip"

[11.03.2012 8:37:49] Error: File "F:\Documents\ZmmDocuments\Не компьютерное\Квартирный вопрос\варианты\pics\Маркса 52 (на Галактику)\" does not exist in zip "6_F.zip"

(1000s of errors, in fact). It appears as if naming methods in .FKC and .ZIP do not match.

Hi,

Can you send us by email (to info[at]fbackup[dot]com) a backup catalog created for such a job, the original file and the zip file?

For that, you can create a new backup of just 1 small file.
