job stalls - how to debug ?

Post by Doug K »

Upgraded to v5 a couple of months ago, and have run successfully several times since then.
Now when trying to run the backup job, it gets to the point of starting to write files to the network drive, then stalls at 0% or 1%.
I let it run overnight but the job did not progress.
After a reboot the same thing happens.
I updated to the latest release but it did not help. Now it appears to stall while creating the shadow copy.
There doesn't seem to be any error in the log file or in the Windows event viewer.
The network drive is fine, and Fbackup v4 is running on several other machines writing to this same drive, and working normally.
Windows 7 on all machines, patched to latest Windows releases in each case.

I checked in the logs and other files found at
D:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Softland\FBackup 5\Logs

The backup.log shows only (extract):
[11/18/2013 8:08:52 PM] Folders found to backup: 22
[11/18/2013 8:08:52 PM] Files found to backup: 279 (263,214.55 KB)

[11/18/2013 8:08:53 PM] Preparing shadow copy
[11/18/2013 8:10:23 PM] Shadow copy created.
[11/18/2013 8:10:23 PM] Added folder D:\evoPC_settings
[11/18/2013 8:10:23 PM] Added folder D:\miscdocs
[11/18/2013 8:10:23 PM] Added folder D:\oldpc\forelg
[11/18/2013 8:10:24 PM] Added file D:\oldpc\forelg\commonCore.htm
[11/18/2013 9:31:49 PM] Stopping backup

I cancelled the backup at 9:31 since it was not progressing. The stall happens at different points each time the job runs.

The Fbackup log shows:
[11/18/2013 8:03:29 PM] FBackup 5.0.240

[11/18/2013 8:03:51 PM] Ipc warning: Start communication failed.
[11/18/2013 8:04:05 PM] Open catalog file "D:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Softland\FBackup 5\Catalogs\toNas.fkc"

The Ipc warning happens some time before the job stalls, so I'm not sure it is relevant.

Hi,

Please see if the bservice.exe process is running after opening FBackup.
If not, make sure it is not blocked by the antivirus.
