The system cannot find the file specified(2)

Post by ramblingedgar »

I have just downloaded FBackup6 via the website. When I installed it I changed the default location so that it would install into on my D: Program Files (x86) folder – as I do for all software (my C: drive is a small SSD, and I don’t want it filling up).
When it finished installing I clicked on ‘launch program and visit web page’. The program started, but very quickly I got the following error message displayed:

Checking Application folders
The system cannot find the file specified(2)
Do you want to reset all your application folders to default path?
You may loose all your file configurations

Clicking Yes doesn’t get rid of the message. Clicking No terminates the program immediately.

On starting it a second time I get a different message after about a 10 second delay:
Checking Application folders
Timeout waiting for bSettings.exe to finish
Do you want to reset all your application folders to default path?
You may loose all your file configurations

Again, Yes just repeats the message, No terminates.

I have uninstalled and installed again, with identical results.

Can any one suggest how I can start to use the program?

More information

On searching the forum for info on bSettings.exe I came across this advice:
Rename the following folders
c:\Users\<current user>\AppData\Roaming\Softland\FBackup 5\
c:\ProgramData\Softland\

I did this (although had to boot into Safe mode for the second as the folder was always in use).

On rebooting I ran FBackup again, and got the same two error messages as described in my first post. So I am still unable to use it.

I wondered if my problem was being caused by installing it on my D: drive. So, I uninstalled it and did a re-install using the default path name which puts it on the C: drive. I also made sure that c:\Users\<current user>\AppData\Roaming\Softland\FBackup 6\ and c:\ProgramData\Softland\ were deleted before the installation.

It made absolutely no difference. I got the two sets of errors exactly as detailed in my first post.

Hi,

Do you use an administrator account?
If yes, we can connect to your computer using TeamViewer to assist you configuring FBackup.
Please send us an email to info[at]fbackup[dot]com to discuss when we can connect.
