Shutting down before other backups are complete

Version 5.1 Build 596 updated 2 October 2014

I have multiple backups that I run at the same time plus one that shuts down my PC when complete.

Theoretically, FBackup allows me to set all backups in motion, turn off the monitor and walk away trusting that all will run, complete and then shut down.

I believed that the auto shut down would not take place until the others had completed.
Yesterday I set all backups to run and didn't expect that it would shut down before all backups were completed first.

One backup that I know was running, did not complete.
The date of that backup indicated that it didn't complete before the shut down happened.

I have been informed by an FBackup support staff person in the past that this would not happen.

Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Thanks,
Billy

Hi,

We found the problem and we will fix it.
In the meantime, please put the shutdown action on the last backup executed or schedule that backup few minutes later, to make sure it would be the last one executed.

Thanks for your quick response.
It's already set on the largest backup for the shut-down feature.
Unfortunately with running 6 other shorter backups at the same time, (firefox, outlook, user data) to 2 external drives they often don't all complete before the largest backup is finished.
I'll just have to switch the shut down feature off for now or wait a while before starting the largest backup.
I don't use the scheduler as my system is not always on at the same times every day.
Looking forward to the update/fix.
Greatly appreciated.

Dear Softland,

Okay, you didn't say when you were going to fix the problem I posted on 3 October.
Now that you have released version 4.1 build 609 in late October, since the problem has occurred, it appears the problem is not yet fixed.

Thanks for your suggestion to put the shutdown action on the last backup executed.
This method only works if the last action/backup runs longer than it takes to complete all of the other backups, every time.
Unfortunately the variables of data to back each time makes this suggestion impracticable for my backup situation.

So can you provide me with an idea of when you will address this issue?
Thanks,
Billy

Hi,

The problem was not fixed yet. I cannot tell you exactly when it will be fixed.

It's almost 12 months since I first posted that there's a problem with the "Shutdown" setting in FBackup and the problem has never been fixed once and for all.

You said you found it and that you'll fix it in October last year 2014 and to date, almost 1 year later, I haven't experienced this function consistently working.
We found the problem and we will fix it.
In the meantime, please put the shutdown action on the last backup executed or schedule that backup few minutes later, to make sure it would be the last one executed.
I currently run version 5.2 bulid 685 and when I set all my backups running including the 'longest to finish' backup which has the "Shutdown" setting, it never shuts my PC down after finishing.

If I run just the backup with the 'Shutdown" setting it will shut down my PC okay but never shuts down my PC with other backups running as well even though the backup with the "Shutdown" setting finishes last.

Basically, I can't set FBackup running, turn off my monitor and walk away being confident that the PC Shutdown feature is going to work.

Running a back at this stage is what I'd consider logical and a Shutdown feature that works properly means not having to hover around my PC to ensure the PC shuts down at the end of the backup.

I would have purchase this program a long time ago if this feature worked consistently but have lost confidence in this issue ever being fixed permanently.

Hi,

You reported the problem 4 months ago, not 12 as you said.
The problem was fixed in the meantime, as you see the first problem you reported is that the shutdown was not waiting for the other jobs while now the problem is that the shutdown is no longer executed.

I tested it here and the shutdown after backup is executed by FBackup.
Can you tell us what OS do you have so I can try to reproduce the situation here?

I was sure it's about a year ago but lets not get stuck on that detail.
The scheduled shut-down feature has been reported by me as not functioning correctly since 2011 and this is just another variant of the backup/shut-down issue.

I use 64 bit Windows 7. Hope that helps.
Hopefully I will make it a bit clearer here this time.

I have a list of 7 backups that I set in motion before finishing with my PC each day that I enter new data or change old data.

For some time I have been waiting a minute or two after starting 6 of my backups at the same time.
Then I start the backup with the shutdown.

That is because FBackup was shutting down if the shutdown backup finished before the others did.
Of late I have noticed that even if I manipulate the timing so the shutdown backup finishes last, the shut doesn't happen.

When I run only the backup with the shutdown setting, it works to shutdown the computer.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Do you still have this problem with the latest build 5.3.723?
