Something wrong with the FBackup network?

I'm trying to install FBackup 5 (build 359) from scratch and I keep getting the error message that a "network resource is unavailable," and the installer asks me to point it toward the fbsetup.msi file. I cannot find a version of this file to the installer's liking, and the installation ultimately fails.

The final message I get is "The older version of FBackup 5 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."

What can I do? Clearly, there is some sort of residual presence of an older version floating around on my system, owing to an unclean uninstall. I have purged the registry, I have deleted all FBackup services that used to run, I have wiped out all program file directories, user preference directories, etc.

What can I do? FBackup does not show up among the list of installed programs, yet the FBackup installer still thinks one is there. Where does the installer get this information? I need to delete it somehow...

Thanks,
Jim

I'm sure that the origin of my FBackup problems are due to a non-clean uninstall. As I've mentioned in other posts, I could not get Build 359 to install without messages interrupting the process asking for a path to the fbsetup.msi file. Somehow FBackup thinks there's an old version still installed. After a second purge of my registry (Win7) in which I attempted to eliminate anything associated with "FBackup" or "Softland" (dangerous, I know), I now get the following, simple, and fatal error message when I try to install: "Unexpected failure"

Any advice would be appreciated. In particular, advice on how to get the FBackup installer from thinking there's an old version installed. Failing that, I guess I'll have to turn to competitive software like Cobian or easeUS.

Not to much of a pulse on these FBackup forums, but I'm patiently hoping....

Hi,

We don't have such problems here and this is the first report about such a problem. It is obvious there was a bad install/uninstall of the application on your computer.
Do you use any tool to install/uninstall applications?
I recommend to uninstall it from Control Panel, directly without any uninstalling tool which can leave files behind.

Like I said, I had to resort to extreme registry backup measures in order to correct the problem wrought by your 358 build. Since I wasn't able to log into my computer, not even in safe mode, in a rescue mode I had to manually move files from an old registry backup directory into the current registry directory. Once I got back into my computer, amidst the purge of FBackup from my system the registry somehow got screwed up. Now FBackup will not install at all.

Anyway, I vented my anger here because I can't believe you released a piece of software that would spontaneously reboot a computer and, subsequently, lock them out of it, forcing extreme recovery measures. It's my sworn duty to warn unwary travelers that you occasionally release software that would do something as disastrous as this. I have moved on to alternative programs. I check this forum occasionally out of morbid curiosity, just to see if the Softland support team still has a pulse. Well, I guess there is one...eventually.

I have not tried installing but when I check for updates I get the following error message:

"Error while checking for updates"
Unable to check for updates
Parser error
Please check your internet connection or firewall/antivirus settings

This is happening on 2 computers that were working well previously.

I think there may be a problem with the network.

Hi,

We don't such problems here while checking for updates. What version of FBackup do you use?
Did you checked the antivirus/firewall not to block FBackup.exe?

Today it is working. I will try the new version because with 360 shadow copy of Outlook.pst was not working. Version 2.45 it was working.
