windows cannot open the folder

Post by gail0279 »

I tested access to the backup and received message "windows cannot open the folder . the compressed (zipped) folder E:\dailydata critical\1_d.zip" is invalid."
Last information i had on this problem said if the file was bigger than 4GB it was created using zip64 technology. So i broke up the data so that the critical files i need are only 2.474 GB but i get the same error. I do not have any scheduled tasks set on this computer. I'm running version 9.9
Other backups using the same naming sytem x_d.zip do not generate this error. They can be read and opened confirming access. One backup is even 6,125,030KB=6.125GB
This is for critical data that i MUST be able to restore if ever the need arises. I've done everything i can think of but no -go. PLEASE help!

Hi,

The zip component of Windows cannot handle large zip files.
Please use WinZip, WinRar or 7zip to extract large zip files.
Of course you can use FBackup to restore the zipped backups it created.
Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html

evidently you missed where i said i broke up the files size into 2.74GB and 1.72 GB. Still getting the message "windows cannot open folder" another anomaly is that a backup of my downloaded music is 6.125GB and i do not get that message. another backup of OLD Stuff is 4.56GB and don't get that message. What up? the problem does not seem to be related to size as suggested. Is there a flag of some sort somewhere that i am missing.

Yes i tested the Restore of the zipped file in question and see that is was backed up okay. However a quick visual confirmation would be so much faster and easier

Hi,

I did not missed that information. Please see if you have the same problem opening those zip files, by using one of these applications: WinZip, WinRar or 7zip.
If the problem is only with Windows, you should ask Microsoft about the issue with their zip component.
