How to protect your data against WannaCry or other ransomware attacks

Post by Adrian (Softland) »

The WannaCry ransomware attack is one of the most aggressive cyber-attack targeting older versions of Windows (Windows 8 or lower). In just a few days it infected hundreds of thousands of computers in 150+ countries, by encrypting the data on those computers and demanding payments to unlock it (using untraceable Bitcoin cryptocurrency). Paying the ransom doesn't guarantee the recovery of data, thus the best way to protect against WannaCry (also called WannaCrypt, WanaCrypt0r, Wanna Decryptor) is to back-up your data online.

With FBackup you can easily set your backups to be stored online in Google Drive and thus keep continuous versions of your important files. So be sure that aside your other types of backup jobs you also have an online backup scheduled - in the unfortunate event your computer would be infected by WannaCry, you will still be able to recover what you have backed up online in Google Drive.
