On my desktop. I can't backup my Outlook.pst file while Outlook is open. If I close it. It works fine. The backup is fine on my laptop regardless if Outlook is open, or closed. Both computers are Windows XP (32-bit).

Do you run the backup from an administrator account?
Also make sure the Volume Shadow Copy service is started and properly working.
