Mirroring Backup

Post by rumboogy »

Kinda new to backups (and Fbackup). If I do the mirror style backup, will it update the files when it runs everytime. In other words, if I do a mirror style (copy) backup to a drive once a week, when it does the backup again, will it overwrite the previous version or will it "add it" to the copy?

Hi,

Yes, that is correct. The Mirror backup type will copy all new and modified files when you run again the backup.
Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html

Does the mirror backup also remove files from the destination if they were deleted from the source, or does it only copy new and modified files?

Hi,

FBackup can also remove from destination the files which were deleted from sources.
By default, that option is disabled. You can activate the "Remove excluded or deleted files" option from "Backup Properties->Type->Mirror" page.

So, what is the main difference between Mirror and Full backup modes?

Hi,

The main difference is that Full backup will put the backed up files in a zip archive, while the Mirror backup type will copy the files in their original format, without zipping them.
